I can't speak for super-extreme temps, but the insulation has both kept the water lower than body temp in 90 degrees, and kept it from freezing (including the tube) after I left it sitting in the snow for over an hour. the dust cover for the mouth-piece is a must-have to me now, after a few low crawls. the pack is comfortable enough on it's own, and easy to secure to a larger ruck as needed. UPDATE: OK I've had this product for over a year now and does the job right. I've abused it whenever I take it camping and still looks like I bought it yesterday. Definitely worth the $70 I paid for it.Cleaning tips: Use vinegar! Vinegar works great when cleaning this, I bought a 1 gallon of vinegar at my B&M store and I use it to clean the bladder. THe only part that sucks is that you will have to 'suck out' the vinegar from the bladder to clean the tube so you will get some vinegar in your mouth, but it's better than using soap (I don't recommend using soap to clean the inner parts of the bladder) or that expensive cleaning kit they sell. Also when you're done cleaning it and are not going to use it for a long time follow the instructions and put it in the freezer; this will avoid bacteria to grow inside the bladder. This pack seems very well built. It straps onto my back and cinches up tight, the dust cap on the mouthpiece is nice. Although it's weird hearing the water sloshing around behind me when I ride, it makes me want to pee. I thread the water line through the right-side grommets to keep it from flopping. My only issue at this point is that the zipper zips the wrong way; downward. If you don't get it zipped down all the way every time you might lose small items from the compartment. I might need to add a zip lock bag for small parts (tire caps, presta-schraeder adapter, etc)I've never used a camelbak before. I like the fact that the filler hole is wide, I can fill it from my refrigerator door dispenser without spilling a drop. |
