14 of 15 people found the following review helpful Good Little Knife, This review is from: Gerber 31-000754 Bear Grylls Survival Series Scout, Drop Point Knife, Serrated (Sports) I dont know if this knife belongs in the ULTIMATE SURVIVAL SERIES BUT it is a good little knife. It is small and very compact. Blade is sturdy, sharp, and high carbon steal. The blade is great 3.3 inch hefty blade with an OK serrated edge. It locks in tight with a small back lock. Clearly set out to do work but it lacks in weight and a good handle. The knife has two thumb studs for easy opening but it take two hands to open this knife. Perhaps thats just because its new though...All the items in Bear's collection have rubber handles but this handle is rather slick, VERY small in the hand, and the plastic ends seem cheap and easily breakable. However, for $20 you cannot go too wrong. But make sure you buy this item on amazon.com NOT in stores. In stores I have seen them cost up to $50!!!!!! 19 of 24 people found the following review helpful Good EDC, This review is from: Gerber 31-000754 Bear Grylls Survival Series Scout, Drop Point Knife, Serrated (Sports) This is totally not the knife you want to bring to a jungle and expect it as a great knife on your survival trip because this knife is built with scouting in mind, which means you use this knife for only a short period of time and some light works. Well, in that case, this is just a right knife for you, but not for me. Why can't this knife be the ultimate knife that you can bring to every place in the world? The reasons are obvious:First, it is a carbon steel knife that it will get rusted in water easily; It won't survive a week in the sea. Second, the plastic handle is very cheaply made according to me; Great for lighter weight, but not for quality! Third, the pivot point of this knife uses a removable screw that will got loosen in time to come. I will say this knife is only great for backup because of its lightweight and its good carbon steel blade. PS. I don't like the serration, but this serration does helps a lot for cutting ropes. For normal... It's lightweight and the handle is very ergonomic. No steel liners in the handle, so it's definitely not a hard use knife, and should never be batonned. Out of the box, the lock is solid with no blade play and the blade is literally "hair popping" sharp. The pocket clip, is not reversible for southpaws, so that was a bummer, and it's not really removable either, since it's incorporated into the pivot screw. Overall, I like it, I see no problem using it as a normal "EDC" knife that should do everything you would reasonably want from a pocketknife. |
